A key area of phonological awareness is a child’s ability to hear and manipulate sounds (phonemes).
A strong understanding of sound awareness is the foundation needed to achieve mastery in reading and writing.
The ability to identify short vowel sounds is one of the beginning skills in literacy to help build the foundation.
To play ‘Short-vowel Bingo’ children hear a word and match it to a picture that has the same short-vowel sound.
The game comes with six bingo boards (each board contains eight vowel sounds), and 56 cards to match. For ease of remembering what the image is, it is written in very small font in the top left-hand corner of each card.
This resource has two other activity options (1) sorting rhymes and (2) sorting sounds.
