Orthographic Mapping is a key building block in the development of strong reading and spelling skills.

To further help your understanding of Orthographic Mapping, we have developed this downloadable A3 graphic. This may help put into perspective how we can often instantly recognise a word in context and know the meaning, but when it comes to spelling, we struggle to instantly recall the correct spelling in relation to the meaning. 

Explicit teaching of vocabulary through a systematic approach to Structured Literacy will help students map both words in accordance to meaning and meaningful word parts (morphemes).
