This one-day workshop explores effective, explicit teaching, structured literacy approaches, and practical strategies to support all learners. Learn how to take reading and spelling instruction to the next level, with focus on implementing a structured literacy approach in upper primary and intermediate settings.

What You’ll Learn

You’ll learn how to be responsive in lesson delivery, differentiate spelling and reading instruction to support learners in Tier 1 instruction, and extend students who are ready for a challenge. You’ll also explore how to optimise instructional time so you can feel confident you’re teaching what’s required in Te Mātaiaho and meeting the needs of all learners in the classroom.

Why Attend

You may have built your skills and knowledge in structured literacy, the science of reading, and the science of learning through the MoE Years 0–8 SLA PLD, Programmes for Students (PfS), or other professional development, and you are now ready to extend your knowledge and practice further. Examples of effective spelling and reading lessons, will be shared to illustrate how this looks in practice. Participants will leave ready to apply their learning in any setting.
